Kiawah

The pristine barrier island of Kiawah is the backdrop to a flourishing community where residents & visitors can indulge in the luxuries of coastal living.

The luxe-getaway lifestyle of waking up to salt-filled air from warm ocean breezes is woven seamlessly within the world-renowned, first-class amenities with which Kiawah Island has become synonymous.

Still boasting much of the natural beauty first claimed by the Kiawah Indian tribe, the sprawling island offers 10 miles of sandy beaches and over 10,000 acres of jungle-esqe landscape. Over the centuries and throughout the continued development of the island, the residence and wildlife have formed a quiet yet powerful bond; a symbiotic relationship which Kiawah Island’s communities strive to protect. A good starting point for the nature enthusiast is the Heron Park Nature Center – a very proactive organization providing an array of nature-geared information & activities to explore.

If nature excursions are not on the agenda, guests can easily find a realm of other activities to enjoy during their stay. Kiawah is home to five championship golf courses – the crown jewel being the acclaimed Ocean Course, home of the 2012 PGA Championship. The island is also famous for its thriving tennis community established in 1976 by Roy Barth and recently ranked #1 by Tennis Magazine on its list of “Greatest US Tennis Resorts.” Kiawah’s competitive sports arena blends nicely with its more leisurely activities, giving a well-rounded array of variety to every guest. A favorite island pastime is hopping on a beach-cruiser bicycle and tooling along the thirty miles of paved bike paths or peddling along the hard-packed sandy beaches, searching for starfish.

The kids of the group can even enjoy an island experience of their own as Kamp Kiawah offers an exciting daytime adventure for all children ages 3-11. Hosting full-day, half-day or evening ‘kamps’ with experienced and attentive staffers, ‘kampers’ can take part in scavenger hunts, art projects, games, pool parties, and campfire activities.

Aside from its sporting accolades, Kiawah is also home to world-class restaurants featuring a multitude of dishes; with a plate to please every person, guests can let their appetites dictate their decision. The Sanctuary Hotel hosts a variety of dining experiences on its campus: The Ocean Room, Kiawah’s signature steakhouse and the only steakhouse in the U.S. to earn both Forbes 4 Star and AAA 4 Diamond ratings; Jasmine Porch, a Lowcountry experience pairing refined southern-style seafood and organic local produce; Loggerhead Grill, an al fresco cafe with an upscale twist on poolside favorites; and Beaches & Cream, a sweet shop filled with homemade desserts and refreshments.

Each clubhouse also features a signature restaurant serving up very different cuisine: The Atlantic Room at the Ocean Course is Kiawah’s signature seafood restaurant and a proud member of the Sustainable Seafood initiative; Tomasso at Turtle Point is a true Italian family-gathering experience, specializing in homemade pasta, sauces, and breads; Cherrywood BBQ & Ale House is a southern tradition of succulent smoked meats and hearty side dishes, also featuring over 60 local & imported beers.

If Kiawah Island is one of your vacation considerations, there’s only one question we can ask: Why go anywhere else?
