Isle of Palms Activities: Things To Do
Isle of Palms is a year-round destination with activities for everyone! Mild winters, long summers, and comfortable spring and fall temperatures make it ideal for beach days, outdoor adventures, and Lowcountry exploration. Whether you’re visiting with family, friends, or solo, here’s a guide to the best things to do on IOP and nearby.
BEACH DAYS & THE PIER
Miles of soft, golden sand make Isle of Palms perfect for sunbathing, building sandcastles, or strolling along the shore. The Atlantic is ideal for paddleboarding, kayaking, and surfing, while fishing off the Isle of Palms Pier is a must-do for anglers. The pier also has a small shop for bait, tackle, and snacks, making it easy to spend a full day by the water.
As an added bonus, many of our vacation rentals include beach gear credits through our partnership with VayKLife — meaning you’ll have access to bike rentals, beach equipment, and more. You can find what each property offers within the description.

DINING & LOCAL FAVORITES
Ocean Boulevard is the hub of IOP’s dining scene, offering everything from casual seafood spots to oceanfront restaurants. Favorites like The Windjammer, Coconut Joe’s, and The Boathouse at Breach Inlet serve fresh seafood and Lowcountry classics like she-crab soup and fried green tomatoes.
Across the bridge, Sullivan’s Island has a smaller, charming selection of eateries. Grab a bite at Poe’s Tavern, enjoy seafood at The Obstinate Daughter, or sip coffee and pastries at local cafés. No matter where you go, you’ll find plenty of tasty options to keep you fueled for your adventures.
BIKE RENTALS & LSVS
Exploring IOP on two wheels is a fun way to see the island. Paved roads and scenic paths make biking easy and safe for all skill levels. Local shops rent bikes for adults and kids, and many of our vacation rentals include a beach gear credit you can use toward rentals.
For a slower pace, try a Low-Speed Vehicle (LSV), a street-legal golf-cart-style vehicle perfect for families or groups. South Carolina rules require a valid driver’s license, passengers to remain seated, and no driving on major roads.

FISHING & WATER ACTIVITIES
Fishing is a favorite pastime on IOP, from the beach and pier to deep-sea charters. Local guides provide rods, bait, and tips for inshore and offshore trips.
Kayaking and paddleboarding are great ways to explore tidal creeks and marshes, while surfing lessons are available in warmer months. Sunset cruises and sailboat rentals offer a peaceful way to enjoy the water and the Lowcountry scenery.
NATURE TOURS & WILDLIFE WATCHING
Beyond the beach, IOP is full of wildlife! Isle of Palms County Park has picnic areas, playgrounds, and walking paths through marshes and dunes. Keep an eye out for dolphins, herons, egrets, and other coastal creatures.
Guided eco-tours are available for a closer look at the island’s natural balance. Whether on a stroll, kayak, or paddleboard, wildlife sightings are a highlight of any visit.

WILD DUNES RESORT:
GOLF, TENNIS & SPA
Nearby Wild Dunes Resort offers public access to select amenities with advance reservations. Golfers can enjoy championship courses with ocean and marsh views, while tennis enthusiasts can take part in clinics or lessons. The resort also features a full-service spa, perfect for a massage, facial, or other relaxation treatments.
SULLIVAN’S ISLAND ATTRACTIONS
Just across the bridge, Sullivan’s Island offers a quieter, more historic experience. Fort Moultrie, built during the Revolutionary War, gives visitors a peek into coastal defense history and hosts exhibits and events. The Sullivan’s Island Lighthouse is another must-see, offering great photo opportunities and scenic views of the marsh and beaches. Together, these sites make Sullivan’s Island a perfect day trip for history, nature, and local charm.
