If you’re looking to find some of the best locally-made Charleston breweries while vacationing on Kiawah Island, you’ll have plenty of places to check out! There’s a reason why Charleston and Kiawah Island are rated as one of the top places to visit time and time again.

Not only are these areas of South Carolina unique and beautiful, but there are also a variety of great restaurants, bars, and shops to explore. This includes being home to some of the best breweries on the east coast!

Low Tide Brewing

The first brewery we’ll take a look at is Low Tide Brewing. Located on John’s Island, this brewery is the closest to the Kiawah. Approximately 18 miles away and can be reached by car in around 20 to 25 minutes.

Low Tide offers a wide variety of beers, from IPAs to lagers to bocks and more. Regardless of your beer preferences, you will find something here to fall in love with if you enjoy craft beers. The fan-favorite that must be mentioned is Aloha Beaches! It’s a pineapple wheat beer that’s perfect for cooling off in the warmer summer months.

On most nights, you’ll find a local food truck available if the mood strikes. You can find a list of what food trucks will be there on any given day and special events on their website.

Though this brewery doesn’t offer daily tours, you might still be given a chance to take a look around. Just ask a bartender while you’re there. If it’s not too busy, you might be shown around.

You’re not going to find regular food at Fat Pig, but there are food truck nights from time to time. What you will have is a large selection of beers to choose from. Whether you like IPAs, stouts, blondes, or otherwise, there is a beer for you.

Also located on John’s Island is Fat Pig Brewing Co. This brewery is about 22 miles from Kiawah and takes about 30 minutes to drive there.

Note, like Low Tide, Fat Pig doesn’t offer brewery tours. They do have trivia nights and other fun events from time to time, however. So visit the brewery’s website and see what events are happening while you’re in town.

Revelry Brewing Co. is located in downtown Charleston, about 26 miles and a beautiful 30 to 45-minute drive from Kiawah Island. So, if you’re headed downtown, this is one of those places to check out while you’re there!

This brewery offers outstanding beers, from lagers to pilsners to sours to ales and more. Perhaps the most notable feature of Revelry Brewing Co. is its rooftop bar. It offers excellent views of the surrounding area and makes for a relaxing drinking experience. No matter if you go during the day or for a night out with family and friends, you’ll be sure to have a blast here!

Cooper River Brewing Co.

You’ll find Southern hospitality at its finest here! Cooper River Brewing Co. is also located in downtown Charleston and offers a variety of beers. These run the gamut from ales to stouts to fruit beers and more. Make note, though, that they specialize in ales.

This Charleston brewery prides itself on delivering consistent, bold, and dynamic flavors every single time! And, even though they don’t offer tours, you’ll find you can see the brewery from the taproom. There’s only a window separating both sides. So, if you’re looking for an immersive brewery experience, Cooper River is the place to go.

If you’re up for a drive to the North Charleston area, you should consider making a stop at Holy City Brewing! This is, hands down, one of the best craft breweries in Charleston. You’ll find a wide selection of beers available to enjoy — including but not limited to seasonal ales, Kolsch, hefeweizens, and lagers.

And unlike most of the other breweries on this list, Holy City Brewing has a kitchen, and there are plenty of seating options (both inside and outside). So, if you end up hungry during your Charleston beer escapades, this should be on your list of breweries to visit. The fare includes burgers and other sandwiches.

Plus, you’ll even find fun events hosted here from time to time! Regardless of when you stop in, there should be something interesting going on.

Last but not least, Frothy Beard Brewing makes it on our top 6 Charleston breweries to visit with you’re here! You’ll find a wide variety of craft beers at this brewery as well, from stouts to porters to ales and more.

There are even nitro beers and alcoholic ciders available on occasion. If that’s your kind of thing, check out the Blueberry Lemonade Hard Cider! Like Holy City Brewing, Frothy Beard has a kitchen. It’s open every day of the week and serves Zombie Bob’s Pizza.

Located in the West Ashley area off Sam Rittenburg Boulevard, this brewery is about 40-45 minutes from Kiawah. There are also several events held at this brewery every week, from musical bingo to trivia nights and more.

Cherrywood BBQ & Ale House

Our noteworthy mention is Cherrywood BBQ & Ale House on Kiawah Island! If you don’t want to leave the island or would rather skip the drive to “town,” this is our top recommendation. Cherrywood will not disappoint the most critical beer connoisseur with over 60 local, imported, draft, and craft beers. We love that they have a beer flight available where you can pick your favorite 4 to sample, perfect for when you can’t make up your mind.

As an added bonus, the outside seating overlooks the Osprey Point Golf Course, and you might even catch a glimpse of our local alligator friends relaxing by the lagoon nearby! Aside from the massive drink selection, you’ll find a variety of menu items sure to please everyone in the group, from their fan-favorite mac and cheese to the overnight beef brisket that is smoked for a minimum of 12 hours before being served.
